Contest Brief
Welcome! Only one page needs design, no coding, (one banner and 3 small images, the rest is formatting text). We need a 'professional feel' that reflects the quality of service we offer our clients. Suggested design added. Even if you don't win contest but some design elements we like we might contact you for later work.
I also added a doc file with all the text so you don't have to type it, and avoid ipse lorum. (my CEO wants to see the final result) our old website is www.et2c.com for your reference. We offer sourcing and procurement services (international trade and supply chain management)
extra info: You are free to suggest different designs than the one suggested, which is only a usability suggestion of what we want, I will list the thought process below so you can freely change the design according to our objectives, and not blindly follow our mock-up design:
Logo: Logo needs no change, unless you feel like our CEO (and decision maker) would be impressed with better. What we do (global sourcing provider) however is not part of the logo and needs proper placement, font, color... Should immediately inform the user what we do
Top banner: Can 'possibly' do without (remove it completely) or use the current idea of world map (needs redesign) which informs the user of our worldwide presence (can replace office with territory, ideas encouraged) or with other professional images, can also include slide that 'speak' to our target visitor... 'professional buyer seeking to produce in Asia) be creative.. but professional!
Menu: do not include the drop down menu in your submitted design, however if you win the contest we will require a quick proposal. Design needs to be modern and inform the user where he is. Menu can be top, middle or left... up to you.
First paragraph. Informs the user in 2 simple lines: what we do and what he gets. Also there for SEO so the Title should be an n1 tag. You CAN possibly remove the entire text... but only if the design really gains much from it.
3 call to action: This is where we will put the most importance on your work. Each of the 3 sections represent different target users:
a) Buyers wishing to produce and import from asia
b) Buyers who need a representative office (buying office) in China (can also visit our website 3d visit section for office screenshot)
c) Fast moving good suppliers (food), importers (sellers) wishing to distribute to china
1) We need the images to attract the user immediately (this is where I belong) using the images to associate with his purpose Images need to be original, clean, professional and descriptive.
2) Short descriptive text and invite to use our services (call to action)
3) If he skips and reads down then information,
4) Then landing pages, So he can access a more specific page
5) If he has not found what he wanted then general information (fat links)
General info: we want simplistic design, white space or professional images, great usability and fluid navigation/ Good luck, and thank you for your participation. No sealed or private or highlighted submission so there is more reward for your work!

The contest will be terminated at the end of the normal 7 day period. However do not expect any ratings or comments to be given the day prior to the results.
edit: My CEO has given his ranking of his preferences. You now again have ~3 days to change this balance. He does not want to see Peoples faces on his top banner, and if you put the world map it should be subtle, and no shiny oppressive colors. The ranking of the top websites each have something he likes, and I have messaged each top ranking to let you know the likes/dislikes. For others if you submit a design that reaches 3 stars above I will replay you in the same way. Good Luck to all

The contest winner is design #120 from datagrabbers, An overall clean design got him good scores all round, but what wow'd us was the informative circle menu included in the top bar. This was a extra goodie we have not thought of and can be used to increase our visitors navigation experience.
There were so many other great designs which made this a terribly tough choice, but in the end this extra feature is what made the difference. Thank you all for participating in this contest, we have been impressed by the level of professionalism and creativity of the designs proposed.- 9 years ago

After a long day of deliberation, we have cut the list of designs we like down to a handful. We have yet to agree on a winner, as each remaining design offers a unique set of ideas and creativity we like. So contradicting my earlier post we have decided to sleep on the matter and take a decision on the morrow. Sorry for prolonging the suspense, but after many hours of deliberations we need a fresh mind to make the final pick.

Hello to everyone, and thank you all for your participation. The contest is about to end and we will review with our team and CEO all designs above 3 stars. This will be a very difficult decision given the amount of incredible work that has been showcased these past days. We will choose the design which most fit fits the image our company wishes to project, and for a select few we will contact you for the rights to use some of your original ideas that we liked, such as logo or images and offer a slight compensation. We shall choose the contest winner later today, after taking some time to review all your excellent designs.

Thannks to everyonefor these excellentdesigns . My CEO unfortunatelycould not find time to rateyour designs himself, so ratedbased on my understanding of his preferences. There were many good designs and the choice will be very difficult. I have 2 5 star rating to 2 designs because they stood out by offering a very original way of both informing the user and gaining space through the design. Tomorrow we will print out all3 ti 5 star designs and choose a winner. Best luck to you all.

Other requirements, aside from the below which was the general feel of what we liked, our CEO has the following tastes: He likes pages in large format, so he doesnt have to squint looking at them, and good dpi. Some good designs are discarded because they are half the page. I know that for websites this is a purposful, but if you want better chances I suggest offering a full page size for the contest only. He wants the logo to the left, not middle, and wishes the text "import to asia" replaced with "buy from asia", your "buying office" by "buying office", and "export to China" by "sell to China". He doesn't like People on the banner, likes top banner to be informative first, then decorative, and you are welcome to fit our building from et2c.com if you can, but not at the expense of information or design.
