Contest Brief

Write a short story with next requirements:

- should follow guidelines of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Short_story
- max extension 3000 words. It must be narratable out loud from start to end without boring/tiring the listeners
- previous contests had some posts that were like articles, study work, documentation, etc.
This contest is about fictional short stories. Please read carefully this description

- the story must be around and/or set in the 1983 Soviet nuclear false alarm incident
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983_Soviet_nuclear_false_alarm_incident

- there is a documentary about the event (links below)
But it's more centered in Petrov and his way to USA. Still, I think it's useful stuff
wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Man_Who_Saved_the_World
youtube.com/watch?v=8TNdihbV5go
wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanislav_Petrov

- Petrov is key in the event, but you are not forced to make him the protagonist of the story
- must be a mix of suspense, folktale, legend and mythology genres
- it must sounds possible, even if it contains fantasy, science fiction, paranormal, etc. Like a myth or legend
- H. P. Lovecraft short stories are a good reference of the type of story to write
Also, some creepypasta stories could be also used as reference
Plus, check our past contests to see the winner story and what we expect (link at the end and first comment)

Real Story of the 1983 Soviet Nuclear False Alarm Incident
    Zainab M.

Thank you to all the participants that competed honestly and sent original stories.

This time were a lot (really too much) entries with IA generated text. I approve the use of this tools, but as a tools. Most of the entries with this type of content were just copy and paste the ChatGPT response...

For all freelancers that posted an original story and doesn't received a feedback, don't get down! Try again next time.
I would like to give feedback to all honest writters, but it's generally not possible. It require too much time. Sorry.

Be aware of our next contest!
I will post the link of the new contest here

    Regards.

A higher prize money attracts talented writers from around. You should consider increasing the prize money instead of expecting quality entries for a small budget in every contest.
