Project Description

Virtual Currency Comparison & Review Website (Two Part Project)

This is actually a two part project. Web Design and Backend Programming. We are taking offers on firms that can do both, or one or the other (and would appreciate working with a firm that bids on one, to have a recommendation of someone they would like to work on for the other part if they can’t do both).

Part I: Backend Development/Crawler/Charts
We are looking for someone to develop our website which will track and provide price comparison and reviews for virtual currency providers for various MMO’s like World of Warcraft and EverQuest II.

This would require a web crawler/robot to crawl a number of different currency sits (about 15) and updates the prices automatically in our database. The database would keep track of each update so that the prices could in fact be graphed and charted over time. This would allow the players to track the changes in the exchange rate between virtual currency and USD of various games and individual suppliers. It would allow them to see the averages along with other stock market information.

The goal here is to create a stock market sort of look with a bunch of great looking charts and tracking information and then to combine that with a blog/news posts about the latest virtual currency news and then to throw in the price comparison feature (which is where we will make our profits through affiliate sales) along with professional and consumer reviews of the providers.

Some of the sites will provide the data in easy to read formats; others will not and the crawler/robot will have to crawl their site for the latest prices by game/server.
There are a few sites that do parts of this already that can be used as examples:

This is the sort of price matching that we want: [url removed, login to view]
This is the sort of chart that we want: http://sparter.com/web/price-trends.jsp#market.code=WWU3WA
An example of a currency site to crawl and retrieve prices by game/server: [url removed, login to view]
Example of vendor reviews: [url removed, login to view]
Another example of price matching: [url removed, login to view]

A quick review of what we are looking at:
1) Gather requirements and plan overall site architecture
2) Build general back-end architecture
3) Build web crawler to gather current currency prices from a list of
providers (about 15)
4) Display supplier price comparison and changes for multiple games/servers
5) Incorporate stock market-style charting of historical data including
comparison and indicators
6) Support Consumer Reports-like staff reviews of each currency provider
7) Support individual reviews of each currency provider under staff review
8) Support articles, interviews, and news reports
9) Misc: Deployment, documentation, testing, slippage, bug fixes

Part 2: Website Development
More or less the web design to support and display all the above components from Part I. As far as web design goes we are looking for a very Web 2.0 sort of look that will include our logo design. Lots of white space, lots of blues, rounded edges, extremely simple, maybe throw in some Ajax. The goal is to create a site that looks very cool and slightly newish and academic. We are trying to create a virtual currency news/charts/tracking site that tracks a sort of “virtual” stock market. A sort of The Street and WSJ version for virtual currency. Maybe sort of like this: http://sparter.com/web/price-trends.jsp#market.code=WWU3WA.

Well let me know if you have any questions. This is a big project, and would probably require updates here and there so will be continued work for a while.
