(1) Discuss and apply concepts/theories/issues from units in the course to events or phenomena in the social world by (2) making reference to specific media or current newspaper articles (make sure to provide URLs in your blog), online content, and/or videos.
Students are also encouraged to make use of their own new media technologies such as smart phones and cameras to take pictures and record examples from their own lives that illustrate concepts/theories/issues from the course. Be creative!
For example, if you are creating a blog post on "conjugal roles" in the family, you might take pictures of advertisements on the subway that depict men and women's gender roles in the family (ex. cleaning products, etc.) and discuss how the ads you see play off of "complimentary" or "companionate" roles.
Another example might involve you choosing a newspaper article about current race relations in your hometown (or where you currently live) and relating the content to concepts/theories discussed in your readings. Perhaps your local paper features an article on racial profiling in Police work, etc.
You are expected to post THREE distinct blog entries on three different units from the course. Do not wait and try to post three entries on the same topic at the end. Also, please ensure that your entries are not the same as other students in the course.
Each post should be about 200-300 words in length.
