Research Essay : Critically assess ONE of the following accounts of well-being.
(a) Objectivism
(b) Subjectivism
(c) Hedonism
(d) Perfectionism;or
(e) Another well-being topic, agreed with the Course Coordinator.

Note 1: Any critical assessment of (a) (d) should do all the following [upshot: it will not be sufficient just to write a simple arguments for & against essay]:
(i) identify the features that it is desirable for a theory of well-being to have, and justify your choice of the features that you settle on,
(ii) outline and explain the central features of your selected theory of well-being,
(iii) assess the overall merits of your selected theory of well-being explicitly and only in terms of the desirable features that you have settled on (e.g. when you discuss any particular objection to a theory, you will need to work out which desirable or undesirable features are at stake in that
objection).

Note 2: For (i), see A. Moore, Theories of Well-being:their nature and desirable features (unpublished ms.), available on Blackboard; plus the other papers and books to which this paper refers; plus lecture slides and notes.

Note 3: For reading on each theory, see Recommended resources above, further readings below, and lecture slides and other resources posted on Blackboard.
