The mathematical models will need to be converted to MATLAB (or any other language if preferred) in order to simulate results.
Below is the general description of the project. However I have started working on a more specific area. I am looking into Parabolic Trough solar panels and seeing what factors affect its efficiencies (such as aperture area and focal length) to try and work out optimal values for those in order to achieve greater overall efficiencies under different circumstances, (thereby illustrating possibility to replace dependence on fossil fuels). For this I need to write the mathematical formulas and model them on MATLAB preferably so that I can simulate it.
The operation of a solar panel involves a number of
thermal processes, which in addition to thermal radiation
also include forced and natural convection and also,
depending on the type of panel, may also involve boiling
and condensation. The objective of this project is to
develop software which can simulate the thermal processes
involved which will then enable us to predict their
effectiveness under different circumstances. First you will need to establish what types of solar panels
are available and then devise and implement a strategy for
their numerical simulation.
The project is suitable for someone interested in energy
systems, their mathematical modelling and computer
programming (preferably MATLAB).
Objective is to look into systems which concentrate solar power, through reflective mirrors or other means, to a small area, which means that they can turn water into steam and then use the steam to drive steam turbines and generate electricity. It is not to look at panels that convert thermal energy directly into electrical energy.
Objective is to first identify the systems that are being developed and then to model them so that you can comment on their efficiency and effectiveness. In order to model them you need to understand how they work and what are the physical laws which govern them.
I am getting the mathematical modelling, programming and simulation work done by you for now with results and some discussion, the bulk of which I would like by Thursday for £500 initially. By tuesday I will decide whether or not to award you the full project with a report of around 30 pages (please remember it is quality over quantity). This is the project description as we've discussed:
First we will estimate the azimuthal angle for which the solar intensity is maximum
Second we will estimate the maximu solar intensity on a given day of the year for all the days using this intensity value and a particular fluid we will vary the temperature/collector area with the concentration factor and check where it becomes maximum and yes the initially we will do for a particular laltitute but later on we may vary that as well then the emissivity can be varied and a sensitivity analysis can be done
I will try to get some feedback by friday on the progress, and any feedback will need to be accounted for in the improvements. the final work should meet the objectives outlined above, and should be of good quality. up until the deadline, which is 22nd April midnight, I may need improvements/changing. so you may have to help me until then. also it should be adequately referenced, not plagiarised at all, and should be written in English (UK). i will expect to receive regular response from you with progress so I can review it. i will try as best to help you with anything if possible, to ensure we meet the deadline.
