Project Description

SUMMARY:
I am looking for template cells and illustrations to use for the purpose of turning my existing blog ([url removed, login to view]) into a comic strip.

CONCEPT:
MWSO is a Wordpress micro-blog that seeks to show a humorous, light-hearted side to the often hated investment world in a text-based format. (See the blog for more details. It is currently live but on hiatus. Reading it for two seconds will give you the idea.) I am looking to transition this site from a micro-blog to a very simple comic strip.

DESIGN:
I am looking to hire someone to draw the characters in a variety of poses, with a variety of facial expressions (details are below), so that I can match the art with the text to create each individual strip. I am NOT looking for someone to draw each strip individually. I will create those in Photoshop with your templates.

I am looking for an illustration style that is simple enough where the same illustrations can be recycled without the reader caring. It is also important that the illustrations simple enough that someone else could pick up where you left off in the future. Each drawing should not take more than 3-5 minutes to produce.

I have attached a few sample images to show the style I have in mind. (It doesn't have to be exactly like these, but it'll give you an idea.) I am also inspired by the styles of Max Canon's “Red Meat,” the Odd Todd cartoons and Penny Arcade. (Keep those in the back of your mind without duplicating them.) I do not want full-color drawings, but select details can be for effect (Penny's har, Max's tie, the green and red ticker-tape on the trading floor background, etc)

SAMPLE:

As this project will be to draw 201 small images, I require a few samples prior to selecting an artist. I would like to see one sample sketch of each of the three characters.

The main character is Max, age 20-30. Max is a little boy in the fast paced investment world. Dark hair. Nerdy glasses. Young look. Max wears a suit to work every day and really tries to be nice to everyone. Imagine this guy but a bit younger and a little more confused. [url removed, login to view]

The supporting character is Penny, same age as Max. Penny is a profane, crass broker who realizes the only way to survive the ultra masculine world of Wall Street is to make more dick-jokes than anyone. To her clients, she's sincere and wins big deals by being the sweetest girl in town. Penny also needs to be wearing a suit in all of her cells. I'm kind of partial to red pig-tails but I think that may be pushing it. Imagine a pouty Amy Adams in her episode on The Office.

The final supporting character is John. John is the boss, and John is a dick. Put Ryan Braun of the Milwauke Brewers in a business suit with a look that is slightly disgusted regardless of how he's feeling and you have him.

Please message me with any questions.
