Straight up: you are just bidding at the moment. I need a quote so I can get funds released from the client.

I'm looking for a solution that will link content from within Joomla onto a Google Map displayed throughout the Joomla site.
The site is for a small environmental restoration group working within a defined geographic area. We're going to geo-locate their content onto the map. The pins on the map will then link through to the associated content items.
These geolocated items will be standard Joomla Articles (from at least two Categories) and items from an events management component, probably JEvents.
The site's home page will display a large Google Map. It will show a number of pins from different categories/sources, one category at a time. The number of pins should be captured as a setting in the back-end, and should allow for unlimited pins.
A DIV will be overlaid across the Map, and will allow users to switch between the categories. Switching between categories will have a secondary effect - it will rearrange blocks of content on the rest of the page. For example, the Events will be the default view on the Map and will be the first of three content blocks on the page. If the user selects "News" then the Map will show geolocated News articles and will also swap the order of content blocks so the News comes to the top. See the attached draft layout.
Three categories are planned, but others may get added later. Would prefer the Google Map controls be removed or reduced to their minimal navigation state.
Also, on the home page - when the user switches categories, I'll need a couple of CSS classes injected into the container element of the content blocks and into the Google Map overlay for styling purposes.
Clicking a pin on the home page will pop up a dialog box showing data related to the content item, including heading (linked to content item); intro paragraph or similar field; intro image; 'More info'/'Read more' link to the content item; and a close button. Expect a similar layout to a standard Google Map overlay.
On content item pages, a smaller map will be displayed with only one pin for the relevant content item. No interaction on the pin, no category swapping - it's purely for visual purposes. Also, no Google Map controls on this smaller view.
Suggestions:
I'm expecting the solution will be a couple of custom module/plugins - one or two Map display components, and a back-end component to create/manage the association between content items and geographic co-ordinates.
I'm not aware of an easy way to add a user-defined field to both Articles and JEvents.
There are existing Joomla components for this kind of thing, but they haven't seemed to be quite close enough to what I need. If you feel it'll be easier to adapt an existing solution, go right ahead.
A couple of stipulations:
The solution may not hack the Joomla core or any of its components. Component overwrites are completely cool. I keep client sites up to date with the latest version of Joomla; I don't want your work to break because of a Joomla update.
In the absence of Javascript, I will provide a static image for the site to display. Ideally, the solution will replace the static image (which will be hard-coded into the site's HTML) with the Google Map instantiation code.
I will provide:
A Google account with temporary password
Assets and data for the Google Map, including a site boundary polygon
Access to a development-build Joomla installation, using the latest release
Sample articles and events, with location data
FTP access to the Joomla installation
Again: This is just a bid at the moment. I need a quote so I can get funds released from the client. However, the site needs to be finalised by end of June, so it won't take too long to get approval to start.
Hi Dan, I can help you again, this is quite a bigger project, but I've already worked with GMaps and it shouldn't be that hard to adapt a Joomla component for this purpose. ;) Next days maybe we can talk more in detail about the single pages you need, hear you soon.
