we need VHDL design for an ic and developing its test board with its SW interface for interfacing with PC (SW can be LABVIEW)
we want to make MURS - GMRS - VHF- UHF -FRS module which has interface to a computer for voice and data communicationss
Our objective is to maintain a BOM of physical components no greater than $20, which is possible using smaller gate fpga's.
So something like the Spartan 3 XC3S200 is acceptable, with 200K system gates.
GMRS / FRS frequency range is 462 to 467 Mhz. @ 5 watt max
Goal of GMRS / FRS as we discussed is full voice / data transmission similar to WALKIE TALKIE on the market. Data transmission is small packets only on connection to another device, before audio is transmitted.
RF Transceiver and Baseband IP Cores must adhere to GMRS and FRS standards. Yes the standards do not permit data, but if the data is sent on a channel and only in a packet burst while holding the talk button then it is acceptable.
There should be a small mcu ip core for integrating a keypad, speaker, software, uart and usb.
The RF transceiver IP core should adhere to FCC standards for power output for simplex / duplex and half duplex.
this project is to make a small USB MODULE, which can operate on the GMRS / FRS / MURS frequencies and spectrum. This module should be powered by the USB port. It should have the property support for the channels and frequency's. It should be able to transmit some form of data on those frequency's and communication in various modes such as duplex and etc. The module it self has no buttons. It only has a MICRO USB connector for the PC. The PC software will allow talking, sending data through the module. It will allow changing the power output of the module, channels, frequency as needed. Sending data is to other module or device. Talking is to those standard walkie talkie devices on the market that use GMRS / FRS / MURS.
You will be doing the simulation and models, and IP design, designing a prototype PCB to test out the FPGA and components and show operation, and the pc software .
what FPGA can you achieve the desired system in ? From your experience how many gates ? Our goal is to use the cheapest fpga possible, with very little external components.
The goal is to have full wireless capability in the fpga for gmrs, frs, and murs, with obviously various power outputs, for a typical Radio and via software through the usb port.
