Project Description

Walking Tour iPhone App

This project will develop an iPhone App that allows the user to take a walking tour of 8-10 locations, where following the route on a GPS map, the user will stop at each location and select and view two images and listen to an audio file.

You are an experienced iPhone IOS/SDK developer familiar with MapKit, GoogleMaps, and MySQL.

1. You will start by developing a prototype of the basic functionality of the app linking the supplied text, audio, and visual/graphical, data/information in the database and displaying these for the user. A wireframe will be provided for approval before starting the coding.

2. Next, perhaps using a third party AIP, you will develop a custom “route” overlay to fit upon the MapKit framework. The user will have a choice between three route overlays: roaming; default (i.e. mapped tour in walking order), and; character (mapped by illustration type). Again, a wireframe will be provided before additional coding.

3. After prototype completion, wireframes will be converted to colour designs imported with graphical elements. At this stage, the UI for non-walking tour user options of “selecting language” and “type of tour” will be designed as well.

Sample walking tour apps can be viewed here, although this project will in some ways be slightly different in location, content, interface etc.

This project is phase 1 of a larger development. Upon completion, the future Phase 2 will include the development of a CMS and a more customized UI.
