You go fishing, you need to know what type of fish you've caught. This app will assist fishermen in identifying the fish they're catching, and what the legal size requirements are for that type of fish. We will provide a catalogue of fish as well as their pictures and details, these need to be made into an app that the user can download when they go fishing. They pull in a fish and SCAN it so that it is matched up against a database. After identifying the fish, the app will advise on the correct length the fish must be before it can be fished. If too small the fish is thrown back overboard and spared, if the fish is fine to catch then there are no restrictions.

In version 1.1 of the app an initial +/-230 species of fish (nearshore, estuarine, pekagic, sharks, crustaceans, moluscs and freshwater) will need to be scanned and catalogued and then made to match up with whatever the fisherman scan when they catch their fish. The app needs to be linearly clean, bright, friendly to the touch as in smooth and immediately responsive and very inviting to be used, so that it almost feels addictive, you must want to go fishing just to use the app!

The scanning function should work like a fingerprint scanner. Or it should work from a photo that is taken of the fish held in close up against the camera (without getting the camera sopping wet!). This may not apply for sharks swimming out in the middle of the ocean which may defy hot-pursuit-photography.

The accuracy level of the image recognition program needs to be intact.

This is one of many apps being made. Each of the selected programmers will be doing different oceans and or seas, and or coastlines. The idea is to have a library of every known fish fishable. We understand that fish radiated by the Fukushima disaster may of course display unusual features like 2 heads or boat-eating sized bodies, so these are of course being left out of the program at this stage.

We see the tasks as simple: scan from an existing catalogue of +/-250 fish for a first test-app that runs completely accurately in real time. Fishing enthusiasts pick up a fish or hold it close to the scanning function of the camera on board the phone and get a quick identification message letting them know what fish they've found and that it's legal fishing length is 30cm, advising the fishermen to return it to the water if they've caught it up outside the allowable length.

The scan function should be a simple up and down red or green line, with a characteristic sound effect, like something out of Halo.
The identifier panel should be simple and easy to read, in a legible gill sans serif type font. Special instructions like whether the fish is endangered etc should pulse in red.

A HOME SCREEN opens the app, with the Acashic logo.

The app should have the "wow" factor whether by way of it's bright almost 3D quality of fish visuals, or because of the way that the screens transition between each other. Perhaps a bubble effect can be used, almost as if we were traveling between different underwater scenes.

The app's quick-find program selection should "update itself" so that it teaches itself accuracy of identification.

The app should also have a function that enables the fishermen to inquire "which fish is this?" by uploading a photo of an unidentified fish not in its cache.

iOS version required as well as Android version.
