Project Description

We are an ecommerce company focused on the sale of books, especially textbooks for college students. We have many design needs, and are posting these first projects as a way to find a qualified individual. There is therefore a good chance of additional projects depending on how the work on these turns out. For both pages listed here, the header and footer for this page are predefined, and do not need to be altered at this time. All parts in between, however, may be changed. Item 1: College Bookstore Front-page We need a new layout and design to improve upon our opening page for the college bookstore portion of our website. This design will be used for a website which is a template for different schools, so it must be able to accommodate different amounts of data, The purpose of this page is to provide good looks with easy to understand navigation options. Item 2: Product Detail Page Description: We need an update to an existing product detail page. The elements of this page are currently there, however we want to improve the layout and aesthetics of the page with the new design.

## Deliverables

1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done.

2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables):
a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment.
b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request.
3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement).
Item 1: College Bookstore Front-page Description: We need a new layout and design to improve upon our opening page for the college bookstore portion of our website. This design will be used for a website which is a template for different schools, so it must be able to accommodate different amounts of data. . The work that we require is below this header, and all parts of the page can be changed. We would like all pages to be optimized for 1024x768 resolution, although it should be usable in 800x600. The school name located in the center of the current page is database-driven for different schools, so this must be done in text, not images. The purpose of this page is to provide good looks with easy to understand navigation options. Main navigation options: • Part one: Search by Course or Professor • Part two: Search by Book • Part three: Browse by Course/Professor ??" currently there are various number of links depending on the school; feel free to re-imagine this (dynamic dropdowns, or something even cooler…) Featured titles: • There is also an existing block of featured book titles which we would like integrated with the design, although the current display schema for this block can be altered to fit into the new design Additional links • There will be several static links directing users to other parts of the website which should be shown • We may want to display marketing banners on this page, as well (See existing banner: “buck-a-book??) • Site Instructions. There is a database driven html instruction block for each school, currently linked from the front page. We would like to better integrate this into the main page, perhaps using some DHTML function Examples (as they are template urls, session cookies must be terminated when attempting to pass from one url to another; a shortcut for this has been done through accessing the url with the file “[url removed, login to view]?, appended to each url here): [url removed, login to view] and [url removed, login to view] ________________________________________________________________________________ Item 2: Product Detail Page Description: We need an update to an existing product detail page. The elements of this page are currently there, however we want to improve the layout and aesthetics of the page with the new design. The elements of the page are as follows: • Medium sized image of a product (approx 130x190px) • Block of product information??"generally includes title, author, publisher, publish date, binding, list price, number of pages. Not all of these elements will be available for every product • Marketing banners (typically these are in the range of 209x70px??"the new design should allow for space to feature 1-2 internal ads of this size; we also want to reserve a margin space on the right or left side for a tall skyscraper banner, not currently in place…these are approximately 120px wide.) • Description??"this usually a general summary of the title, and may contain separate elements such as reviews. Currently this is being displayed as a single block, however we would like to separate these elements into separate parts in the new design • “Buy?? options. This is a block that displays our price, effective discount below list price, whether or not the item qualifies for free shipping, an add-to-cart function. This is shown for one, two or three elements corresponding to available condition of the item: new, used and/or marketplace. Marketplace is different in that the price displayed is the lowest of several options, and there is no add-to-cart function, but rather a link to further detail…we want to integrate the information on this linked page onto the product detail somehow (see below). • “Sell?? options. This is a brief block which shows a small version of the product image and contains a link to allow the user to post the item for sale, should they choose. • College bookstore list. This is an existing element which should be integrated into the design…feel free to improve the display here • Related books. This is a block of titles related to the one featured on the product detail page. This could be 0 for some products, or even hundreds for some others. This needs to be displayed in a more accentuated manner (currently the user must scroll well down the page to even see it), and should integrate some internal navigation so that the user can scroll through available related books…currently all related items will be displayed no matter how many there are. Examples: [url removed, login to view], and [url removed, login to view] We also want to integrate the information from a marketplace detail, which currently displays information about marketplace copies of the book. From the first product detail link above, clicking “details?? brings up the marketplace detail (direct link is: [url removed, login to view]), which contains information about the marketplace sellers who offer the same book for sale. This list can contain unlimited entries, however, so we do not want to display it all on the first page…there should be some way for the user to expand/condense it…and perhaps some internal navigation of the list to save space. Displaying the lowest price outside of this list makes sense, as well, to motivate them to look at the list if the price is good. Scope: The project altogether will consist of 1-3 pages with several new elements. We require quick turn-around however; work would need to begin immediately upon bid approval, and should be completed within 7-10 days.
