Project Description

My company, KnGrid, will manage a back end server that controls and manages 26 electric vehicle charging stations on the University of California - San Diego campus. Students and faculty will purchase electric vehicles from Mercedes-Benz and use them on campus as well as commute off campus.

There will be a few types of customers:

Category 1 Customers: The ones with the Mercedes Smart Car (electric)

The cool thing about the Mercedes vehicles is that they are able to 'talk' to the charging stations and the back end server. We will be provided the account ID's for all the customers buying this car from Mercedes. These customers won't need to do anything when they use the charging station besides plug in. The car will send the Account ID to the back-end for authentication. What I want to do is work with the dealer to register them online when they buy the car. That way, the first time they go to a charging station on campus, their account and billing is already set up. If the account is current (and has a credit balance) the customer can charge.

We'll get the charge detail records from the back end system run by RWE in Germany (it is called "ICON") and bill/debit the customer's account. For credit management, we'll use the approach of getting pre-payment from the customer's credit card and hitting the card again whenever the balance goes below a $10. We may also offer a monthly "Flat Rate" price for 'all you can eat.'

Category 2 Customers: Non Smart Cars with recurring usage

Primarily, customers that DO NOT have the Mercedes Smart Car. These customers will need to use either a smartphone app (already created by RWE) to initiate a charging session or an RFID card. We'd bill them via the same methods as Category 1. They prepay a deposit that get's debited with usage and replenished when the balance hits a specific threshold.

Category 3 Customers: The "one-time" user

This customer is using our charger for the first time and may never be on campus again. They would be able to pay us via "premium SMS" messaging for a number of hours that they want to charge. This would all be handled by the RWE system, but I think there may be a way to email them a link to KnGrid's Registration website so that if they wanted to set up an account later, they'd have the link.

So, I need to augment my existing website ([url removed, login to view]) with a site for:

1. customer registration (accept terms and conditions),
2. billing, account management and
3. credit card payment.

I'm thinking we could use our existing URL [url removed, login to view] and maybe just add. [url removed, login to view] or [url removed, login to view] Otherwise, I could get a new
URL: [url removed, login to view]
