Project Description

Write Bind9 DNS configuration (running on Linux) to create a DNS server feature to check a blacklist of restricted URL's and respond with a DNS redirect to a customized web page message response if the URL is found on the blacklist. If URL not found on blacklist, DNS server should forward query for resolution via DNS forwarding feature for normal resolution process (using publically available DNS servers - i.e. Google DNS). IF URL is found under a black list category, the custom response should be a web page with an "access denied" type message listing the URL that was blocked, the name of the blacklist category (e.g. pornography) and should have a "contact your network administrator with questions" link that is associated with the email of the source IP address of the client making the DNS query. Finally, in the event of a blocked URL request (i.e. blacklist match) an email notification should be sent to the email address associated with the source IP address of the client making the DNS query informing them which URL request was blocked, the reason for it being blocked- which blacklist category it was on (i.e. this URL was on the pornography blacklist) - I assume the database of source IP address vs. email address/account info would be stored in a MySQL database (users would sign up for this service and enter this info during registration along with enabling dynamic dns service client to keep the source IP info current). Linux Server and Bind9 up and running on AWS, available for testing code.
