Project Description

Subject: Webiste Error
Description: I have a company working on the SEO of my site and spoke about the fact that google wont rank a secure page, therefore we are only looking to have the "s" on pages where its needed. Here is his email to me.

We tried to change url https:// to http:// in admin control panel.
Under Tab Configuration >> Web

We just replaced base url
[url removed, login to view] To [url removed, login to view]

But it did not work. We restored previous settings but website is still not working. Do you have any idea about this erro. Maybe the server needs to restart or system>>magento connect>>magento connect manager needs to be updated.

Replies: 2010-06-23 09:41am by shapelif - Hello,

I have configured your Magento to work with your SSL.

The correct configuration is as follows:

Unsecure URL: [url removed, login to view]
Secure URL: [url removed, login to view]

With this configuration Magento will automatically use the secured connection for every order.

However your current error is coming from your php scripts, not from the Magento configuration:

2010-06-23 12:58pm by shapelif - Thank you very much. is there a way that we can have only the home page and content pages without the https and have the user login and payment pages secure?

2010-06-23 01:13pm by shapelif - the error came back again and the only thing i did was process an order

2010-06-23 01:32pm by Stanislav.I - Hello,

Thank you for the update.

In order for you to disable the secure access to site home page and the content you need to update the url address supplied under the unsecure base url option as it is explained in our tutorial at the link below :

[url removed, login to view]

You should set the unsecure url address to [url removed, login to view]

As for the web site issue it seems that the site was damaged again. We restored it from our backup and it is working properly now.

If you need further help, do not hesitate to contact us again.

2010-06-23 01:53pm by shapelif - I did what you said regarding the url change the site is down again. :(

2010-06-23 02:09pm by Stanislav.I - Hello,

Thank you for the update.

We have restored again the site from our backup. It seems that the current template is linked to the Magento application and when a value is modified that causes the problem. I will recommend you to contact a local developer who will be able to revise your application and adjust it correctly.

If you need further help, do not hesitate to contact us again.

2010-06-23 02:28pm by shapelif - It's weird to me that I would have to find a magento developer to help me when I didnt install the secure https to begin with. When i asked that it was done was it evident that only the login/checkout pages should be secure. i feel like i am at a loss right now because magento only assists "enterprise" users.
