By creating another Domain Controller with DNS/AD roles, you can seize the 5 FSMO roles from the corrupted server and then clean everything up with ADSI. Takes time to do since most of the metadata cleanup is done through CLI , but should not be too difficult to get you back up and running.

I am a project engineer doing system integration. Windows related products are one of our core focus. One of my biggest project is to configure about 80 Windows servers in different sites with their respective roles. I have always dealt with issues before doing integration. One of the most common scenario is with the active directory. These issues are most common with replication. There are lots of solutions that I have done, including registry edit, or even possibly forcing the AD to be demoted and put it back. (depends on the approval as it requires a possible downtime) Based on what you have mentioned about one of the FSMO roles corrupted, it can be fixed. Whether the approach is to fix the VM itself or retrieve the role. Assessment will be best if I can speak with you and remote with your infrastructure. The statement and conclusion of the issue however needs to be reassesed to ensure that the correct root cause is pointed out. I always start with experiencing the issue myself which ensures me and my customer that the assesment is based on my technical experties.
