Gluster, Proxmox Recommendations We need recommendations to improve our server speed and stabilty: We are running a Gluster array with 3 nodes in a Replicate share, each a Dell 2950 with 16 GB of RAM and a Xeon E5345 @ 2.33GHz. with the following clients: - a web server with approximately 100 low-traffic websites . - less than 4000 IMAP and POP e-mail accounts, about 700-800 total Gigabytes of mail. Our e-mail and websites are frequently (at least once or twice a week) very slow and sometimes when that happens they grind to a complete stop. We also need to put some Proxmox virtual servers on the Gluster share, but when we try to do that, slow response from Gluster kills the server - it literally stops working for 15 seconds or more, and Bad Things happen when that occurs. Our server monitoring tools show that the apparent bottleneck is not network traffic, but either CPU time or disk utilization. When the Gluster array needs to heal itself, disk utilization on the Gluster nodes exceeds 60% and CPU usage (on all 8 cores) exceeds 50%. Any time our worker servers introduce higher than near-idle load is when everything starts to choke. The most recent healing operation has been from us trying to optimize one of the Gluster nodes by switching from RAID 5 to RAID 0, hoping to alleviate the high disk utilization issue. We need a solution that improves performance with minimal disruption, with Gluster to do the job, as we need it for the Proxmox virtual servers that we're migrating to. We need our NFS IMAP and POP to be fully redundant. 8 Linux, Apache, MySQL, Debian Mar 27, 2017 Today6d 14h $617

Compile a Debian Kernal We are looking for a Linux Kernel Developer, ideally with experience of the Freescale [url removed, login to view] ARM926EJ-S core. The current project is to solve a hardware issue on the Embedded Arm TS-7670 Rev D (256MB) units using U-boot. Hardware being used: [url removed, login to view] We are currently seeing an issue where the Freescale FEC PHY driver [SMSC LAN8710/LAN8720] on the 4.4.1 kernel has a “flapping” (repeated up/down state on the Ethernet adapter) issue with a small percentage of the devices. The current image being used is: [url removed, login to view] The project is to either recompile or compile from scratch a kernel that fixes the “flapping” issue and produce a working image for the TS-7670 Rev D units. There are new versions of the [url removed, login to view] MAC+FEC driver+SMSC PHY that can be attempted. It would be preferable to continue on Debian Jessie but a build based on any of the RedHat variants would also be acceptable. The manufacturer provides a Debian Wheezy image with the [url removed, login to view] kernel that has this driver issue solved. Taking the driver from this source, recompiling the 4.4.1 kernel with this driver and rebuilding the disk image would be the most preferable route. If required by the developer, a current stable or longterm kernel can also be used. 16 C Programming, Linux, Debian Mar 22, 2017 Mar 22, 20171d 3h $288
