Hi, The project is segmentation with superpixel clustering. By using SLIC Superpixels and boundary focused region margin. The program consists of three phase. First, generating superpixel by SLIC superpixel algorithm. It works by labeling every pixel in CIELAB and make a cluster. The second phase is to make a similarity matrix of these clusters. Each entry of matrix is the similarity between two superpixels. The similarity is the distance between the mean of every superpixel to its neighbors. Then combining the superpixels with the smallest distance together. Now we have regions. The final step is merging these regions by using threshold and the difference between adjacent regions in order to generate the segment and image segmentation will be done. The first step is done. From the second one, the part of calculating the mean of every superpixel is performed. The remaining parts, making a similarity matrix and find the smallest difference between superpixels and finally merging them together. I'm working with OpenCV. Thanks.

I am a wildlife biologist working on a project to survey birds using cameras. We took thousands of high-quality aerial images of flocks of (large) birds on water. In most images, the birds are VERY easy to detect by eye and, I THINK, would be very easy to isolate and detect by computer program. I mostly use R, and R is not great for this type of project and I don't have time to learn other software. A past employee with moderate coding experience largely already did this in matlab, but retired before he could fix some glitches. However, I'd like a program that I can run without the use of an expensive program like matlab. For the current year, we have about 12,000 photos. And we will re-do this survey every year. So, Ultimately, I'd like a final product that is fairly easy to run by almost anyone with some coding/computing skills. There are several species in the images and if remotely possible, it would be nice if the program could try to sort them. For instance, if it could give you a likelihood that item x is a bird and the likelihood that it is species x vs. y. I included a photo of a flock of birds on water from the project. There are a few other issues -- but I don't think they would be very difficult. For example, some photos are over land, not water, and can be thrown out. There are other "items" in the pictures like rocks, garbage, other wildlife (e.g. seals), and the program would need to not count these. Let me know if you think this is possible!
Current situation: We are using Halcon to do image analysis (IDS USB3 camera with telecentric lens). However, the Halcon keys we need to buy for every machines is a burden, so we want to move to OpenCV. What we need to have at the end of the task 1. a simple C++ project (visual studio 2015, 2013 or 2010) which can work standalone (so we can feed it with camera screenshots to see how functions interact) - more info down. 2. a dll we can integrate in our project (visual studio 2015) so all functions can be called from our source code. 3. We need to have the source code of the project First version - detection of the position of the notch (in pixels towards the bottom of the full picture) - see pic1 - detection of a reference dot (1mm radius) (in pixels towards the bottom of the full picture) - see pic2 - readout of a code - pic3 - we must have the possibility to have a second camera form open which shows a closeup of the region where the mouse is.
