The Assignment:

As an economic consultant, you are asked to evaluate the business environment and hence the chances of success for an European multinational firm. The firm is interested in developing a new hybrid electric car to be sold to one of these developing or emerging economies : Russia, India, Brazil. The car is to run on gasoline, bio-fuel and electricity.

Financing is to consist of 50% € and 50% local currency. Currencies of these countries operate under a flexible-rate regime. Interest rates are routinely changed by the central banks. Businesses are regulated to a certain extent.

Obtain the latest data on GDP, growth, inflation and interest rates, wages and other costs of initiating

and continuing a business, rent and taxes, re-patriation regulations. Make the necessary assumptions and using appropriate macroeconomic and other models, obtain of forecasts of such variables as exchange rates and inflation etc.

Predict the probable after-tax return on investment. Use the numerical data to provide your conclusion in favor of investment in one of these three countries.
