Mukanda festival video recap [3/4/5 AUG]

Three days of Music ( PRESIDENT BONGO, LARRY GUS, NICKODEMUS, FELIX LABAND, DJ KHALAB & more), Street Art and debates in order to stimulate the Urban Regeneration of an old town in southern Italy. --- Mukanda is a rite, a rite of passage practiced by an African tribe (Ndembu) to mark the transition from adolescence to maturity. Like many other similar rites which are spread in each culture of the world, it includes a first phase of separation from the tribe, from all the comforts of home: the initiate is taken by force into the forest, where, through some tests, is exhorted to reflect, to mature. The next stage is symbolic, a moment of revelation: “the eye-opening” experience. Only then, finally, the initiate is allowed go back home. In the same way, Vico left its tribe, its home – the old town centre – to go deep into the forest: the forest of modernity. It’s time for our Mukanda, our “revelation”: this festival needs to be an opportunity for reflections, for tests to grow up and, finally, to go back home, living back the old town centre, the abandoned places, the no-places.
