Project Description

Requirements are that I need to loop through all MS Word documents in a directory to include all sub-directories.  That will include older (doc) and newer (docx) file types.  For each document a search must be conducted for a defined variable string (“WORD 1:”, “Word 1:”, or “W1:”).  If the search string is present, it must extract all “Word 1:” variances fields and write them out to a plain text file named the same as the source document.  Another possibility would be to write everything to the plain text file and then script the deletion of the non-wanted parts.

File “[url removed, login to view]” contents:

------------Start of file--------------

The file was created on the date listed…

Word 1: Statements typed here are the ones that are wanted. There is no preset length to this field and may range from between one line and ten to twenty.

Word 2: Nothing from these sections needs to be saved.

Word 1: More information that is needed can be found here.

Word 2: Again, these lines will be excluded.

Word 1: Once all of these fields are captured the file can be closed.

Word 2: Everything in the word 2 fields are not wanted.

------------End of file--------------

A plain text file named “[url removed, login to view]” needs to be created and should contain the following:

------------Start of file--------------

Word 1: Statements typed here are the ones that are wanted. There is no preset length to this field and may range from between one line and ten to twenty.

Word 1: More information that is needed can be found here.

Word 1: Once all of these fields are captured the file can be closed.

------------End of file--------------

The original file is to be left intact and unchanged.  I am interested in getting input as to what thoughts are on the best and easiest way to accomplish this?  There is NO limitation to native Windows (XP/7) capabilities.  Additional software can be added to the system.  The only limitation is it must be a Windows application.  No colinux or Linux OS or anything along those lines.  If it can be loaded on the Windows OS I may consider it. A VBScript may be the easiest
