I need help with the production of an iBT TOEFL reading text book. The book will be for IN HOUSE use only. The book will not be published for commercial publication but they will be printed in book format for use inside our private school franchise for student use only.
Basically the book is expected to have 14 chapters with each chapter concentrating on familiarizing the student with a particular TOEFL question type i.e. factual information questions, inference questions, reference questions etc.
There would also be 2 Vocabulary Review Tests and 2 Mini-Tests and a Final Test.
Each Chapter would have 6 parts.
1.Introduction. The specific question type to be studied in the chapter would be introduced and explained with some tips.
[login to view URL] Section. (10 Questions) short practice questions relating to the specific question type to be practiced.
[login to view URL] Preview. (25 Questions) vocabulary questions drawn from the 4 reading passages to follow.
[login to view URL] Passages. 4 passages (around 400 words each) with 6 questions each. Questions should be of the type being studied in the chapter.
[login to view URL] Review. (35 Questions) an assortment of 4 different types of vocabulary questions, sentence completion, synonyms, antonyms and multiple meanings.
[login to view URL] Test. 2 passages (around 400 words each) with 8 questions each of the type being studied in the chapter.
Vocabulary Review Test. after Chapter 5 there would be a Vocabulary Review test selecting words from the previous 5 chapters. The test would follow the same basic format of the Review Test.
This would be followed up by a Mini-Test using all the question types studied in the 5 previous chapters. This would consist of 3 passages with around 12 questions for each passage.
After Chapter 10, again there would be a Vocabulary Review Test and a Mini Test.
The Final Test consisting of 3 passages each. 9 total passages (mix of question types up to you but include all of them. More Vocab and Factual, less Other types. For Sentence Simplification, Prose Summary, Insert Text….perhaps only one each per test
Basically there would be 99 reading passages (14 chapters x 6 passages + 6 for the Mini Tests + 9 for the Final Test = 99) of around 400 words each plus the writing involved in making up the drills and vocabulary questions.
Note however, because of the redundant nature of the work, a large portion of the writing involved may turn out to be quite easy and quick to turn out. The same question formats are repeated throughout the book and a lot of the work regarding vocabulary drills and questions mostly involve looking up words in the dictionary and then setting them up in question format.
The writing of the reading passages and the constructing of TOEFL type questions following the passages would be where real writing skills and judgment would be called upon. Passages can be researched from online sources or in any way you desire.
Deadlines. We would like to have this to be completed ASAP.
