Project Description

Charlton Media Group is a leading business information group with offices in Hong Kong, Singapore and the Philippines. We publish in print and online key business magazines for the region, both country based and also regional trade publications. We also organise events associated with our key brands as well as research and bespoke conferences and roundtables for clients.

This is a regular job opportunity. We have 3 magazines published bi-monthly and 1 magazine published quarterly.
We need freelancers who can write articles for these magazines, ranging from 750 to 2500 words, depending on the story requirement.
You will be provided with all information and materials you need to write the article.
We need writers who can deliver the best quality of work in one or two days' time and are available to edit their work should there be revisions from the editor.
You will be paid for every finished article/project.
Previous experience writing for business magazines is an advantage.

To qualify for the position, 1) send your CV and 2) submit the two articles as required by our writing test:

I. Come up with an article based on (but not limited to) the following points (about the UK property market):

• A net 11 percent of respondents predicted declines, the best result since July 2007, the month before the financial crisis began.
• “Buyer confidence is growing daily,” said Luke Pender-Cudlip, an estate agent at Knight Frank in London. “Many think we have hit the bottom of the market.”
• Lloyds Banking Group Plc’s Halifax business says that house prices jumped 2.6 percent in May, the most since 2002. Nationwide says they matched the biggest gain since 2006.
• Nationwide Building Society and Halifax saying that home values jumped in May
• Property sales per agent rose to 11.8 in the three months through May, the highest since August 2008.
• “On the face of it, the housing market does appear to be close to bottoming out with activity picking up in a material way and prices at last stabilising,” RICS spokesman Ian Perry said in a statement.

II. Do the same with the information below. This time provide three potential headlines/titles for the article.

• Cookpad was the nation’s 12th initial public offering this year.
• Members who pay the 294 yen monthly fee are allowed to see the popularity ranking of recipes.
• Popular among women in their 20s and 30s
• Most profits are generated through the marketing business which includes tie-ups with food producers. Earnings are also created through membership fees and advertising.
• “The company’s analyst briefing was packed to the rafters,” said Kyomi Ando, an IPO strategist at KBC Securities Japan. “Investments in network systems are one-time, meaning costs aren’t much of a burden. We can expect this company to grow.”
• Consumers are saving money by shunning restaurants for home-cooked meals.
• In the six months through May, spending on dining out and accommodation fell from levels a year ago by between 1.1 percent and 7.2 percent.
• Logged 6.8 million unique visitors in May
• ($[url removed, login to view] million) For the year ending April 30 on [url removed, login to view] billion yen in revenues
• “The next growth area for the company will be among mobile phone users for whom paying the monthly fee is a very simple process,” Narimatsu said in an interview last month. “We expect growth in this area to be substantial, and once people sign up few quit.”
