Transcription of audio files (research interviews) into digital format. Research interviews represent doctoral research fieldwork of an individual student and were conducted in Pakistan in a mixture of English and Urdu. Some interviews are pre-dominantly in Urdu, some pre-dominantly in English, while some are a mixture of both.
Input files provided will be digital audio files, either in WMA or WAV format or in AUP format compatible with software AUDACITY, which is freely available for download from secure, virus-free source [url removed, login to view] online. The transcriber will also be provided the questionnaire used for the interviews and other supplementary materials to aid in understanding the context in which the respondent is heard speaking on the audio file.
Individual interviews range from about 20 minutes to 1 hour and 20 minutes but the project is being given out on 'per one hour of recorded audio transcribed' basis, regardless of how many interviews make up 'one hour'. So your bid should represent your offer for transcribing one hour of audio ($X per audio hour transcribed) and should also indicate your turn-around time e.g. how soon can you transcribe 5 hours of audio? A total of 30 audio hours need to be transcribed, however, first a testing job of 3-5 hours will be given to check for speed and accuracy after which the remaining job will be given out in equal tranches of 7-10 hours each.
The output required is a digital text file for each interview, typed in English and/or Urdu as per audio recording using a text editing software like InPage. The audio should be typed out 'verbatim / as-is' using the appropriate language i.e. English, Urdu, or both. Please note that translation is NOT required. This job is for 'as is' transcription, which means that the Urdu portion will need to be typed in Urdu and the English portion will need to be typed in English, all in ONE file. A sample of the required 'output' is provided.
