Bollinger Bands are a series of 3 bands consisting of a center line and 2 outer bands. The outer bands are the guage with which to recognize true excitability in the movement of a stock. This excitability is also known as volatility.
When a stock moves with little excitability, the move may be slower and less extreme. When a stock moves with high excitability, the move may be faster and more extreme. The Bollinger Bands are most effective when used to confirm the true directional move in a stock.
