I have a client who is a home builder and needs to revise/rewrite their business plan.
I did a little research into how to write a better business plan - and discovered there’s more to it than meets the eye. The existing document is a bit light on for good, solid, hard-hitting facts. And while it’s a lovely, friendly approach, this is probably not the right tonality for this purpose.
From what I’ve experienced, the copy should avoid jargon and buzzwords. It should also be succinct, focused and easy to read. In order to ‘flesh’ out the existing content, I believe more research needs to be done as well as a compilation of questions for the client.
For instance, in the Business Description section, the recommended approach is to start with a short, accurate description of the industry, its present outlook and future possibilities; follow this with information relating to other markets/new products (within this industry) that could be beneficial/detrimental to the client’s business.
