This short simple project is to take a series of daily returns for the S&P 500 ( that I have provided) and provide the formula to reach the annualized compound return. The goal is to show the annualized compound return of the time frame if you were to buy and hold, growth of $1MM and the annualized compound return if you were to remove the 40 best days and if you remove the 40 worst days. This is a take off of an old Forbes article suggesting that one must buy and hold stocks in order to reach your investment goals because if you missed the 40 best days your return would be much less. What I am showing is that if you miss the 40 worst days your return would be MUCH better. I do not know how to input the formula. I would like this to be my template to update on a quarterly basis. I need the formula in the spreadsheet for the supplied time frame as well as detailed instructions on how to update for future dates.
