Project Description

I have a website with 75,000 broken URLs (404 errors) and need to redirect each of them to the closest match. Please refer to the attached XLS, it has the first 1,100.

The job is to:

a) Find if the product still exists using the Search in the website. If it does, then add the new URL in the 2nd column.

b) If it doesn't exist anymore, then enter the closest category URL. For example if "Leica/[url removed, login to view]" does not exist in the new system, then the substitute would be "/audio-visual/binoculars". See the XLS, the first few entries have been entered as an example.

c) If there is no close substitute, then redirect to the root domain, but these should be kept to an absolute minimum!

d) Please notice some URLs can be fixed using search and replace. For example there are several that have "/camera-store/" but if you remove that part, the rest of the URL is still good. So you could replace that text string.

e) Please check the new URLs here to make sure they all exist: [url removed, login to view]

We will also check that all URLs have been tested. If all works well and you can deliver fast, we have many MANY more files like this until we fix all 75,000 errors!
