MODULAR LIGHTING

Synopsis

Modular - A module will contain variable numbers of LEDs. These modules of pure LEDs will connect to a 'central unit' that will then power all the modules connected at the time. A module will contain from ~5-70 LEDs and a 'central unit' should be able to support around 30 modules. Average module will have approximately 10 LEDs.

Dimmable - The 'central unit' will have just one knob (potentiometer or similar) that will then control all the connected modules concurrently. All modules should be of similar brightness at any given time for any given setting on the knob/potentiometer. Dimming range should be form ~25%-100%.

Power Source - Power source would be a computer PSU, most likely a 12V rail.

Other considerations - My understanding is that LEDs will simply not emit light at a certain point of the dim range but will none the less draw power. A switch (electrical) that would switch off all power at a certain threshold (relatively low level of brightness ~25%) would be satisfactory.

- Most likely Surface Mount LEDs will be used in the modules.

- All LEDs will be of the same colour.
