Description

The purpose of this project is to to provide a device (circuit) that can monitor and control the power from an AC mains socket using an Arduino board.

This will result in a device similar to the Kill A Watt ([url removed, login to view]) but without an LCD display and all data being accesible by the Arduino.

The device must be able capable of supporting the monitoring of 110 to 240 volts AC 50Hz or 60Hz

Power for all components and the Arduino must be obtained from the Ac source.

Other than for power sources, all components should use Opto Isolated devices to isolate low voltage devices from the mains supply.

Switching of the Ac relay should be done via bit changing of one of the arudino's digital outputs.

A header should be provided (on the low voltage) side of the board that can directly connect to the Arduino to provide monitoring data, power and relay control.

The preference is to use an IC, such as Analog Device's ADE7753, or similar to carry out power measurements/calculations to reduce the processing requirements of the Arduino.

Sketch code for the Arduino should be supplied to allow realtime display of Real Power, Apparent Power, Vrms, Irms and any other avaiable power measurements via the Arduino's serial/usb interface.
