Arduino Based In Car Unit Prototype:
The In Car Unit (ICU) Prototype is a microcontroller device designed for operation in cars, while stationary and when driving.
The (ICU) Prototype platform is the Freetronics 11 USB Droid, (100% Arduino Uno compatible) and I/O shields, including a Real Time Clock, Micro SD socket, RFID Shield and associated sensors. The prototype will also read and copy csv files to an external USB Memory that can be inserted into it via a USB port.
The prototype has 4 digital outputs and one analog input. The ICU has 6 operational states that are triggered by reading and authenticating RFID cards or supply / loss of power. The ICU has two classes of user, being a “User” or “Administrator”, identified by their RFID card.
There are two LEDs and one small (8 ohm) speaker included in the configuration that will require some passive electronic components (primarily resistors) to operate.
An external module that can delay voltage drop to the ICU is also required. This unit is likely to be a simple passive component configuration (resistor / capacitor) that will delay loss of power to the ICU for a time sufficient for it to record a power failure (fetch timestamp from RTC- write to hosted Micro SD Card).
Custom development using other Arduino (or Arduino compatible) products, other technologies or variations on the proposed configuration will be considered if they can be proven to be more cost efficient or better suited to purpose.
Note: The ICU is intended for use in Cars and operates of the (vehicle) 12 volt battery. Prospective developers should consider that a regulator and DC noise / voltage spike suppression circuit may be sought as additional work to the core ICU Prototype project.
I am seeking appropriately skilled engineers to write code (Arduino Sketch), provide wiring / schematic diagrams, configure components and design the minor (passive component) external modules.
The Prototype Developer will be engaged on a time (not materials) basis that will be capped at no more than 15% greater than the estimate given. Any additional work will be on the same terms.
Deliverables will be code, drawings and operating documentation, delivered by email. A detailed overview of the requirement will be provided to suitable prospective Prototype Developers, followed by an online (Skype) question and answer session to ensure they understand the requirement.
IMPORTANT: Ideally, Prospective Prototype Developers will provide their own components and environment suitable to complete the work, including computer, internet, ICU (Arduino microcontroller or 100% compatible equivalent) and associated shields for their development and design purposes. Prospective bidders MUST advise if any up-front costs for components is required..
