I need a design for a hinge that is concealed so when the two parts are closed there are no protruding parts visible.
I need this done in a hurry no later than 13 March 2013.
The box consists of two main components. Must fold up and unfold as shown in image sequence attached. See Concealed [url removed, login to view] .
The final size is approximately 90mm x 45mm x 45mm so components need to be suitably sized to be robust.
When unfolded the whole assembly must sit flat on a surface and the top surfaces must be planar.
There are two hinges either side which are essentially identical mirror images and are required to have the same critical feature of being flush with the outside walls of the box when it is folded closed. That means when looking at the box from the top or sides you will not see any protrusions.
When the box is open flat, hinge features on the top surface may protrude if necessary,
Hinges cannot protrude when the box is folded. i.e the walls must be flush. Some recesses and hollow sections are ok, but not if they significantly affect the visual appearance.
The rectangular gap or cavity that is created when the box is folded cannot be obstructed by hinge components
Hinges can be made of multiple components
Preferable if the mirrored parts can be identical so only one part need to be tooled.
I do not need a finished detailed design. Hand sketches or rough CAD models demonstrating how the hinge would work is sufficient, as long as critical features are clear enough for me to build them in CAD on the final model. The final model is much more complex, this is just one feature of it, so the hinge design needs to be scalable to suit other configurations.
If you prefer to CAD the design up that is fine as long as it can be exported in a common format (IGS STL etc....)
