In an effort to try and explain this easier, I’m going to simplify the project so it is easier to understand. Conceptually, the real project is exactly the same.
We have a large number of different buckets
Each bucket contains a DIFFERENT mixture (percentage) of apples, oranges, bananas, pears, etc.
BUCKET001 could have 5% apples, 10% oranges, 25% bananas, etc. which would total 100%
BUCKET002 could have 10% apples, 4% oranges, 40% bananas, etc. ….
Based on the buckets available to us, we need to create a Custom Bucket that contains a certain % of each fruit.
To accomplish that goal, we may need to have 10% of BUCKET001, 15% of BUCKET002, etc.
Since it will be VERY hard to get the %’s perfect, some fruit will be more important than others. For example, to get as close as possible to the correct Custom Bucket, we may need to say that Apples are more important than Bananas.
We currently have an access database that contains all the buckets and %’s (which could always be put in Excel).
In Excel, we need to be able to:
1. Tell the system what % of each fruit the Custom Buckets should have in them
2. Tell the system what Buckets are available for it to make its calculation (maybe 15 of 20,000 buckets)
3. Click a button and the system will tell us what % of each Bucket we need
The data is in a simple format:
Unique Bucket ID, % of Apples, % of Oranges, % of Bananas, etc.
Each column is a different fruit
Adding the fruit columns up will equal 1 (or 100%).
