We are aiming to add a series of "Bed-time" reading childrens stories (basically for the Kindle market) to our portfolio (hitherto we have mainly published non-fiction "How To" titles).
Target is 3-8 year-olds being read to by a parent at bedtime. Length of each book to be 25-30 pages with a simple illustration/image on each page. Titles to be part of an on-going series (approx. 1 new title per week).
Plot needs to appeal to the childs imagination (and not necessarily be too logical). General story scenario is "characters find themselves in a scary situation but the outcome at the end of the story is happy/successful".
Should be some involvement of animals/nature. Main characters should be 2/3 in number and boys/girls.
Scenarios can be relatively bizarre - generally with a (subtle) underlying message of right/wrong or bravery etc. An element of humour is acceptable.
The "hero" characters should be cheerful/colourful (i.e. with an identity that can be "adopted" by the child/reader).
At the end, the story should allude to a follow-up or sequel book.
So, Basically - create highly engaging and completely unique content as well as characters, universes and events
Develop content themes with a view to producing a continuing series of titles.
Work to include simple illustrations or images.
We will want to see that you have a portfolio that demonstrates creativity, talent and a sense of imagination - in this niche.
