PLAYWALL is my range of art designs for children. I came up with this idea before my son was born. I felt like the nursery didn't look happy and playful enough. In my attempt to add some fun to the nursery I made a range of fun art designs of some farm and jungle animals. I used various material from around the house to make these - wrapping papers, ribbons, buttons, felts, straws, card board, foil, fabrics, strings etc. Once these were up on the wall, the nursery looked lot more playful and bright. A year on my son now loves looking at the pictures and feels the different textures and surfaces on them and what's amazing is that there has been no wear or tear!
Each design is individually handcrafted using a a variety of materials such as patterns, felts, ribbons, buttons, feathers, string, foil, suede and fabrics and a lot of the material used is recycled. The designs can be applied in a variety of ways – framed art work, personalised, nursery wall decoration, hand crafted books, invitations, record charts, graphic prints and the possibilities are endless!
Background: I made 7 handcrafted wall art pieces for my son’s nursery to brighten it up! Lots of mums who came over for play dates said the artwork was very unique and I should take it up commercially. So I put in lots of nights of hard work and made roughly 100 pieces spread across 5 themes. After making these 100 pieces and selling a few individual personalised orders, I realised that I need to scale things up for it to make sense as a business. So I want to use my current designs (and more that I come up with down the line) across a variety of different applications.
They’re not just wall art – they’re art designs which can be put on the wall or applied in 2D formats to various things like wall stickers, foam playmats, growth charts, record books, invitation cards, bedding design, nursery furniture design and the options are limitless!
To this effect – I want to create a catalogue of the current designs framed out to look good (as the picture quality is quite poor) and applied to various formats. I want to work closely with a designer to bring this to life.
The catalogue itself should not be more than 30 pages long and will stay in an online format to start with with an option to going into a printed form later. Slide 22 onwards in this presentation is some work that another designer had started for me but unfortunately he doesn’t have the time to see this through so I need to start from scratch.
The PLAYWALL logo too can be improvised as none of this styling is signed and sealed!
