I am developing an open source self-published book to teach front-end developer workflow using tools like yeoman ([url removed, login to view]) grunt, modernizr, Twitter Bootstrap, etc. This will be in the spirit of online technical books like [url removed, login to view] and [url removed, login to view]
The overall theme is "rapid prototyping web sites" (i.e. developing web sites quickly).
So my idea is to have an illustration showing a somewhat "hip looking" computer programmer that's "stressed out" trying to meet a crazy deadline. My thought is that he may be sweating and/or tears coming from his eyes, or anything else that's funny and shows he's stressed out trying to meet deadlines. The more pathetic and funny the better but I want it to look more like a clever nice illustration than clip art.
The design must be vector based and preferably usable for more than just the header of the books web site e.g. if I can repurpose it as a mascot for blog posts, etc., that would be great too.
I've attached my current web header screenshot which is all CSS3 based. It currently has the title center aligned but I'd probably move it to the left and feature the illustration on the right. I'm open to making the header vertically taller if the design warrants it.
This is the current header for the online version of the book. Likely it will change once we get the illustration. Either the purple header part will simply stretch vertically (like double the size or so), or the title will be moved over to left and illustration put on the right. Even with the later, I don't see anyway around the header becoming vertically taller. I definitely want the illustration to "stand out".
EDIT: For some reason freelancer.com is not allowing me to attach file example from description. Perhaps because this is a repost.
