I create publications in Pagemaker 7 for Windows.
(Before I installed Windows on my Mac, I used to run Photoshop 6 on my Windows machine.
Now that I am running a virtual machine, Photoshop 6 won't install, and I can't get the trial version of Photoshop for Windows to install, and the trial version for Mac has expired, so I don't have access to Photoshop anymore, unless I buy a 2nd hand copy on Ebay - the new one is way to expensive for what I need and it may not help anyway.
The above two sentences may not be relevant to the job!)
I need to be able to create TIFs or BMPs that have a transparent background. I'm sure I used to do it with a program called Graphic Converter X, available here: [url removed, login to view]
There is a transparency tool in that program that turns a white background into checkerboard. Lately, however when I try to save an apparently transparent TIF, or any other kind of transparent file, I get a message saying the format does not support transparency, and sure enough, if I proceed with the saving, there is no transparency.
In the attachments to this project, the file 4 note [url removed, login to view] has a transparent background, that functions fine in Pagemaker. So too does the BMP file Flute Fingering diagram.bmp. The 3rd file, Cuckoo, [url removed, login to view] is not transparent, but I want it to be.
I create many TIF files from my Finale software, but they are all opaque backgrounds, and there is no way to change this in Finale.
So I need someone to explain to me how to edit the TIFs so that they arrive in Pagemaker with transparency. I am willing to consider buying Photoshop if that is the only way to do it, but would prefer to use something free like Graphic Converter or Paint.
