I'm a writer who had just finished a series of short storied entitled 'Splinters of Truth'. There are various short stories involved, but most of them revolve around fantasy. I have a strong idea for a cover based on one of the story- The Firebird. You can see my current mock-up attached. What I'd like is something original rather than this piece created from Dreamstime art- but in a very similar style. The Firebird is a dark-ish take on Russian folk stories/fairytales, hence the desire for a fairytale style cover. The bird you can see on the mock-up is perfect in style, it just lacks detail. I'd like to keep that level of bright colour and stark contrast. I like the background of swirling grey, but if you have a better idea, fire away! I'd like to keep the font as it fits my style well and is a free Adobe font, easy to use for other things. The bottom strapline could go if the space is needed. Also, it would have to scale nicely to use for other things, so vectors would be ideal. In my mind's eye, I see a forest scene, done in the same storybook style. Perhaps the trees could be grey shapes like the existing swirls. I'd like to have the protagonist, Ekaterina, in the dark forest, holding a firebird feather out, with a brilliant fiery light being emitted. The fire could be done in bold shapes, keeping the storybook/mythological style (think of Watership Down's Frith segments). Perhaps a suggestion of the bird in that light. Think of medieval depictions of people and scenery- some detail, but with that fairy story simplicity. Just a tad more modern, forgive the contradiction!
