Painting Project Instructions
Objective:
The creation of an action painting in the style of American Abstract Expressionist Jackson Pollock (Visit: [login to view URL]). All materials can be found at Hobby Lobby, Michael's, or Texas Art Supply.
Requirements:
1. You must view the Jackson Pollock video recording by producer and director, Kim Evans. This video is on reserve in the LSC-NH library. If you do not have the opportunity to review this video, you will need to complete Internet research on Jackson Pollock Expressionist painting style. 2. The painting is to be completed by you the student.
3. 9" x 12" 90-lb. cold press paper or Artist Canvas Panel.
4. Four colors of acrylic craft paint in plastic bottles (2 oz). Some colors can be mixed to make even more color. Experiment and have fun.
5. Each student will turn-in his/her titled finished painting with an explanation of the relevance to painting media and the work of Jackson Pollock (artist statement). Your artist statement explains your choice of color, title of painting, process of painting, and your thoughts while painting. This will have to be done in a Word Document and turned in with your painting.
Getting started:
1. An application of black acrylic paint is to be randomly applied by stick/hand/squeeze bottle/etc. in a drip pattern.
2. After the black paint has dried, use one of the colored acrylic paints is to be applied to the surface by the student.
3. After the first color paint has dried, use another of the colored acrylic paints is to be applied to the surface by the student.
4. After the second color paint has dried, use another of the colored acrylic paints is to be applied to the surface by the student.
9. After the third color paint has dried, use another of the colored acrylic paints is to be applied to the surface by the student.
5. When the student is done with all the painting all the canvas will have paint on it with minimal amount of the original white canvas showing.
Tips:
Individual and intuitive patterns are to be developed and explored by the student.
