Hello, my name is Ross and I'm currently running a Kickstarter project that is looking to be successful. This means that the editor will be starting her work and my focus turns to finding an excellent cover designer for the series.
The design will be semi-realistic with heavy fantasy tones and the illustrator must be adept at capturing these themes.
The basic concept is that the front cover will display one of the main characters (Princess Alicea) and the back will feature the second (Rufus the Thief)
The spine will be a wall of pale blue stone that will steadily crumble away to reveal a new image through each instalment.
The idea is to capture the essence of the worlds of both characters, Alicea living in the luxury of her kingdom and Rufus living in the Underbelly of the city.
Quick theme notes:
This will involve heavy cerulean and silver tones and a theme of water. Alicea's design can be seen via the Kickstarter link provided at the bottom of this post and although she will be designed in a more realistic approach than the anime designs suppled, this will give you an idea of her character. Some items in the image might include tomes, azure and silver roses etc
Again, in the link you'll see a design of Rufus. He may be somewhat eisier to nail down in the more realistic styles. His cover will feature a much darker contrast of blacks and crimsons including guild marks, knives, crimson and black counterparts to Alicea's roses and various other thief/assassin trademarks.
This is just a very brief overview and the following is some themes that will be required and if you think that you can't produce them, please don't apply. I know it sounds rough, but I am willing to pay good money for a job done right.
Water is difficult for a lot of artists. Please know that water is a theme for Alicea and it is a must that it be included.
Alicea has a companion - a little swan standing at around eight inches tall made from water and Alicea's latent magic. It's a difficult concept for some to deliver on, and can not be left out.
Above all, it must be elegant. My writing of course has darker themes etc, but the theme keeps an elegant air. It is not gritty fantasy.
The right applicant will recieve a full briefing about the job, and I'm absolutely willing to pay the right price for the right candidate. Please read over this mini-brief, take a look at the kickstarter page (and the facebook link upon it) and even read the first few chapters if you feel compelled to. Then drop me a line.
