In Tanzania and the East African (EAC) Region at large, most farmers fetch very low prices for their agricultural products - and this extensively affects agricultural productivity in the region. Indeed, lack of accurate and timely information on agricultural products prices within the region is one of the great contributors of low prices for agricultural products within the region - and well informed businesses people take significance advantage of this situation. Thus, the idea is to establish a database for key agricultural product (maize, rice, beans, wheat, etc) prices within the region and make it easy accessible to farmers and traders, mainly through mobile phone sms ( via using the platform of the existing mobile phone operators), or via developing a pertinent website. Therefore, the idea is to gather and update/post daily information of agricultural prices products from different regions/ districts of Tanzania/ the entire EAC - and make them ready available in a pertinent website (it could be a member based website - for one to access it he/she will need to pay an annual subscription fee) or via sending short sms through their phone and accessing prices of specific crops prices or a range of crops prices at specified fee for each inquiry - depending on the number of crops and locations (region or district). Indeed, there will be a fee for those who will need to make analysis on the price trends - for example, a trend analysis can be carried out for a specific crop within the same region or cutting across a number of regions/districts.
