Project Description

Mobile phone are becoming faster and faster, this seems that also the capability for analyzing images from the camera should get better.

This project is a Proof of Concept for fast auto recognizing the MRZ (Machine readable Zone) on the holders page of a standard passport (two lines (44 characters each) font: OCR-B).

So while using the camera function of a mobile phone these two lines should be OCR'd and displayed on screen of the mobile phone. The aim is that this process should take no longer than 1-2 seconds and should work in different circumstances, like lighting, angle, distance etc.

The GUI can be simple, it should contain a button for starting the camera function / scan, it should display the used image, the OCR result and the time that it has taken to recognize the MRZ and the OCR function.

Because I understand that it is difficult to build this for the new BlackBerry 10, the test can also be done with for instance with an Android phone like the Samsung SII or SIII.

This functionality can be compared to the realtime cognition of a barcode but in stead of the barcode it should be the MRZ.

The end result should be a tested application and the source code of course will be my property.
