Thanks for your interest in our project. If you don’t read this whole post, there’s no chance for you to come out with the winning bid.
We are looking for someone to implement a new design to an existing website. The website is a radio directory that incorporates a fixed audio player. A good example is the [url removed, login to view] website. We will only reveal our project to finalist contractors, but the [url removed, login to view] website gives you a fearly good idea of what we require to do.
If you have past experience with audio players, please send us examples of past projects. The complexity of this project mainly resides with the player. It needs to be an HTML5 player, with a flash and windows media plugin fallback . It needs to support streaming from Shoutcast, Icecast, Windows Media and Wowza servers and support AAC, aacPlusv2, AAC HE, mp3, mp3PRO, Windows Media and Ogg Vorbis codecs. We also support a proprietary format which is already written in flash and will be plugged in to your flash module.
Most of the functionality of the existing website will be kept, but a few features will be added. Information displayed on each station will be obtained through an API call or an existing database which is already populated with data (we are basically handling all backend and require you to do the front-end implementation).
We will provide design mockups in .psd and .png. Website will need to be responsive and we have mockup for both full desktop view and smartphone view. The fixed player will also offer the possibility to be popped out and should be able to reside on its own as well and not just as a static item on the website.
A challenge will be to allow navigation on the website, without the player stopping and keeping at the same time clean URLs. Again, [url removed, login to view] is a good example to look at. For example on [url removed, login to view] if you start the player and click on the “view station” link for top 40 you are directed to [url removed, login to view] but the player keeps playing the URL is changed. this is important for SEO purposes.
In order to bring this project to completion, you will need to master the following:
HTML (including HTML5)
Player coding experience
Flash Audio player
Responsive website design
Well commented code
Cross browser compatibility
Optimized for SEO
We would prefer working with one individual for the whole project, but we would consider splitting the project in two parts (player and website separately).
If you think you are the right contractor, your reply should start with “Stay tuned!”. Then, we would appreciate to see your past projects that use similar skills we require. We would also like to know your availability for this project and of course, your best bid. If you would prefer to do the project on a fixed price basis, we are not closed to the idea.
Best of luck!
