Project Description

This project involves creating a javascript function to collect as much information as possible about a user's browser and platform. This library must work flawlessly with IE8-10, Firefox, Chrome, Safari (mobile and desktop) and Opera. It is not necessary for the information collected to be the same set of data for both IE and other browsers; and you may build separate routines or sub-functions to handle IE and non-IE scenarios.

An example of some of the characteristics that might be captured:

It should be noted that this is not an exhaustive list, and suggestions are welcome. It is more desirable to capture data which is less likely to change (a listing of the browser's fonts, for example) versus data which is more likely to change (the window height).

At a minimum, the following should be captured:

Browser Plugins

System Fonts

Time Zone

User Agent

Browser Plugin details (Shockwave, Flash, WindowsMediaPlayer, Silverlight, Adobe Acrobat) *

Screen size (height x width)

Screen color depth

System fonts

Supercookie test (DOM localStorage, DOM sessionStorage, IE userData)

1st party cookies enabled

3rd party cookies enabled

Javascript enabled

* IE8 and above prompts the user for permission to load certain non-default plugins in order to reference version of these plugins, so the IE routine should allow setting a subset of plugins to check (only) so that this user warning can be avoided.

An example of this collection exists here:

Must use Javascript syntax. NO JQUERY or other library includes.
