We are looking for an implementation of an algorithm to segment out specific fruit in images.
Simple color filters can't differentiate between leaves and similarly colored fruit. So use of machine learning or feature extraction will most likely be necessary to segment out just the fruit.
An example image and segmentation map is attached which could be used in a supervised algorithm. We will provide you with a dataset of similar images and segmentation maps.
For the project, you will provide the implementation of your algorithm (so we can run it). We will also hold onto a portion of the dataset to test your algorithm on. A successful algorithm will segment fruit so that their location can be determined while ignoring non-fruit objects. The final segmentation algorithm should run in under a second.
