Skinning a few characters in Maya

I have 4 characters that is rigged with full controls and blendshapes. I need help with the skinning and weight painting bit. There are parts such as armor on the body that requires rigid bind or a solid looking smooth bind.
Its a very small budget because I've already done the joints, controls, IK handles etc. The joints are already in place (no mesh binded yet) but if needed I wouldn't mind if you move them; as long as the skinning is good. I haven't completed the face and eye controls yet; but that doesn't matter for skinning and painting weights right?
I also have to mention that the files are in Maya 2013. I have attached one model and an image of how the other characters look like. Let me know if you need additional info.
