Assignment Brief

You have to develop an assembly line for the alternator shown on the attached sheet. All the parts listed on the sheet will be purchased and shipped to the factory using a JIT supply method, which aims to provide 5 days of inventory at all times. The demand for these alternators is within the region of 50,000 to 85,0000 per year and your assembly line must be able to cope with this variation. You can employ a maximum of 100 people plus a management staff of 10 to do the work and an unlimited amount of automation, but your solution should represent value for money

Your report will have to contain the following elements:

• A diagram of the assembly line in simple block format. (10% of marks)

• An explanation of the methodology used. (30% of marks)

• An explanation of the controls used. (20% of marks)

• Suggestions on how the Alternator design could be changed to make it easier to assemble. (40% of marks)
