I have developed some macros in Microsoft Word 2010 in a document template which provide automation of some simple functions of personnel/HR documents for consistency. Those functions include (i) saving the file with a standardised file name, (ii) saving as a PDF, (iii) inserting electronic signatures, (iv) generating emails to alert people to the new documents, (v) ticking content control checkboxes when something has been done.

The template I call "UNIFIED Employee Contract [url removed, login to view]".

In simple terms, calling the template will generate a new document with some basic content. An AutoNew macro will then run and generate a form, from which the user will make a choice of different letters or memos to be added in to the document. The document becomes a mail merge document, linking to a spreadsheet which is generated from a confidential staff database. A member of staff is selected, and the document is saved in that person's folder. The details are filled in, and then some other functions can be run.

Most of the functionality is run from MACROBUTTONS. The individual documents generated each time are not macro-enabled, but they are attached to the original document template where the code sits.

I have developed these macros in the evenings as something I enjoy. Mostly they work well. I have continued to add more and more functionality. But they have now got too complicated and I need an expert to look through them and rationalise, improve and debug the code. For example, error handling is not very sophisticated. Some functionality still does not work.

I have produced some notes as training for the managers in my organisation who use these macros. I have uploaded this as a separate file.

The macros create a link between our confidential staff database, and the folder structure on our server. In order for these macros to work, I will need to provide a zip file with the entire folder structure (the top level folder path does not matter, these can be easily made to work anywhere).

To start with, I am looking for up to 2 days work and not more than $250. I expect you will find some easy ways to improve the code. Every time I look at it, I can find a better way of doing something, even if I have only 20 minutes. For example, when I first wrote the code, I was using the Selection object, but have now learnt about Range objects, and have started to convert the code to using those. I have also tried to use modular code, but this is not completed. The code is reasonably well documented and mostly quite straightforward.

Please bid if you have a high level of expertise in Word VBA. I would also like good communication, and so good English is essential. Ideally, to save time, we will have an initial session on Skype for about 30 minutes to go through the project. I use TeamViewer to enable access to my PC so that I can demonstrate the macros working.

When you bid, please indicate when you would like to start the project. It does not have to be immediately, because I am not in a hurry. It is better that we arrange together a time to start the project when I am not busy at work, and can respond to queries.

There will be some other very similar related projects to be done after this one.
