This project is for development of a GPS-enabled map app specific to the following criteria:
- must be able to incorporate location services in areas without signal tower coverage or wifi (i.e. GPS only)
- app will be used within a limited geographical area (approx 15,000 square miles), but must be able to display client-provided geo-raster basemap data at multiple zoom levels, concurrent with client-provided vector-based roadways (derived from [url removed, login to view] or similar - a discrete set)
- provide vicinity-based queries and route-planning tools based on client-provided geospatial data or tabular data linked to the roadway shapefiles described above

These capabilities exist in a variety of other apps, however, this app is intended for a niche audience with specific, geographically constrained interests in natural history and cultural history (think biologists and archaeologists, within a private wilderness reserve area)

For example, existing geospatial data documents various wildlife and historical site locations or occurrences; app would provide this information based on GPS location ("This may be a good place to find weasels") and also ("I want to find weasels, what would be a good route?") - preferably with a smooth graphical interface.

No data collection capabilities are required to be included in this app, however, integrating the capability to capture geotagged photos and associate them with map symbols would be nice addition.

All geospatial data will be provided. Optimally, this app would allow for subsequent updates/revisions to all geospatial data. Again, this is for a discrete, well-defined area with NO data or voice coverage, so all data must be delivered within the app. If initial release is successful, an additional 8 (eight), non-contiguous areas would be released using the same general app framework, just different geospatial data, as well as concurrent development for iOS.

ALL geospatial data (except USGS topo) supplied for this app is proprietary, in terms of specific use and intended utility.

This project, as posted, however, is for a single, discrete area.
