We are a small company in United States, we develop mostly web-based library catalog enhancements, including mobile apps for iOs and Android. The mobile apps are simulating user activity in library catalog (such as searching for a book, placing a hold, renewing checked out item, looking at library events, etc.).
We have developed Android and iOs (iPhone/iPad) apps for library catalogs. As an example, you can look at these:
- [url removed, login to view]
Our iOs developer created the apps for most library catalog versions (there are 5 versions which are generally common, but some functions operate a little differently) and has moved on, and we are looking for someone to take over adjusting the existing app to more of our customers.
We work in very structured way – the apps work with API that we host - we provide:
- very detailed documentation,
- existing iOs app source code (if the app is being adjusted for an existing catalog), and test credentials for the catalog (such as barcode and PIN for developer to be able to test placing a hold, renewing an item, etc.).
We would work on project-basis for each app billed by hours, but this would be an ongoing activity. We currently have a line-up of several apps already.
There would be 3 kinds of adjustments:
1. If we have an app for the necessary catalog version - the adjustments we would require would in most cases be:
o Changing the API URL
o Changing app icon and name
o Changing some other fixed parameters
o Moving some existing elements (icons, view elements, etc.) around within the app
o Adding/removing some standard features – there are some customers having catalog customizations
2. If we don’t have app for an existing catalog, there would be more adjustments necessary – basically creating the app for the new catalog version based on other apps
3. If new iOs version comes out, the apps will need to be adjusted
We require the app to work with 3 versions back besides the current iOs devices (one app both for iPad and iPhone). Meaning, if currently the latest is iPhone 5S, we want the app to work with iPhone 5, 4S and 4, as well iPad 4 being the latest, it must work with iPad mini, 3 and 2.
We keep the code in Github, and we expect the finished app to be checked in to our private github repository and posted to our iTunes account according the example of currently published apps.
We also may need you to create development certificates with UDIDs of our customer devices for demo and testing purposes. In some cases the app may need additional adjustments after we show it to the customer and receive feedback.
As an indication, for the previous developer adjusting an app for an existing catalog version took 3-5 hours, creating app version for a new catalog took about 10 hours including posting it to iTunes, so we expect it will take about double for the first couple of apps.
